For the past eight years, it has been the greatest honour of my life to serve the residents of Coquitlam on City Council.

When I first asked for your support, I made a simple commitment to listen, work collaboratively, and make decisions that reflect the long-term interests of our community. Those values continue to guide me every day.

Coquitlam is a remarkable city, and over the past eight years, we've seen tremendous growth and change.

Throughout my two terms on Council, I've worked to strengthen our parks and recreation system, expand affordable housing choices, invest in transportation and community infrastructure, support local businesses, protect our natural environment, prioritize community safety, improve accessibility, streamline City services, and ensure residents receive strong value for every tax dollar.

In my first term, much of our planning focused on directing growth around transit oriented hubs and building complete communities around Skytrain. During my second term, new provincial housing legislation significantly changed the way municipalities must plan for development, bringing substantially more density to neighbourhoods across Coquitlam.

These changes make our responsibility at City Hall even more important.

As Coquitlam continues into the future, we need to plan carefully, invest wisely, manage our resources responsibly, and make sure our infrastructure and community amenities keep pace with change. We need to protect the quality of life residents value, while preparing for the needs of future generations.

My Story

I am honoured to serve the residents of Coquitlam as a City Councillor and am proud to call Coquitlam home.

As a long-term resident, entrepreneur, and community leader, I have spent my career bringing people together, building partnerships, and serving the community I love. My approach to leadership is rooted in listening, collaboration, and making thoughtful decisions that reflect the long-term interests of residents.

My parents were early Korean immigrants who arrived in the Lower Mainland back in 1968. When I was eight years old, we moved to Coquitlam in 1981, and today I have three generations of my family living, working and studying in the Tri-Cities. I attended Meadowbrook Elementary, Dr. Charles Best Jr. High, and Centennial Sr. Secondary. I got my B.A. from Western (Ontario) University and M.A. from Korea University In Seoul.

My parents built their lives and small businesses from the ground up. Their example taught me that success isn't just about what you achieve for yourself, but it's also about what you do for others and the community around you. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my career.

In addition to serving on City Council, over the past two years I have served as Executive Director of Access Youth Outreach Services, a Tri-Cities charitable organization that has supported vulnerable and at-risk youth and families since 1993. At Access Youth, I work alongside staff, volunteers, schools, community organizations, and other service providers to help young people access the support they need to thrive. This experience has strengthened my understanding of the challenges facing our community and reinforced the importance of prevention, compassion, and strong community partnerships.

Before being elected to Council, I built a career in business, communications, and marketing, helping small businesses grow, connect with their communities, and navigate change. I have worked with tech start-ups, growth-stage businesses, non-profit organizations and professional associations clients throughout British Columbia.

I have always believed that strong communities are built through service. Over the years, I have volunteered with numerous local organizations and community initiatives, giving back to the city that has given so much to my family and me.

I am committed to thoughtful planning, responsible financial management, supporting local businesses, protecting our parks and natural environment, expanding housing choices, investing in transportation and community infrastructure, and ensuring Coquitlam remains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive city for people of all ages and backgrounds.

I believe the best decisions are made by listening first, respecting different perspectives, and working together to find practical solutions. I remain committed to serving with integrity, transparency, and a genuine desire to help build an even stronger Coquitlam for future generations.

My Priorities for Coquitlam's Future

Coquitlam has changed significantly over the past eight years. Our population has grown to approximately 170,000 residents, bringing new opportunities, new businesses, and vibrant new neighbourhoods. But growth also increases demands on infrastructure and puts growing pressure on housing and public services. Meeting those challenges requires thoughtful planning, a focus on core services, responsible financial management, and leadership that weighs today's needs with tomorrow's opportunities.

While we cannot control every challenge facing our economy, we can manage how prepared we are for the future.

As I seek your support for another four-year term, my commitment remains unchanged: balanced decision-making, responsible financial management, and a clear vision for Coquitlam's future.

Together, we can continue building a city that plans beyond today's challenges and prepares Coquitlam for tomorrow's opportunities.

1. Plan Responsibly For Our Future

Periods of economic uncertainty require careful decisions, not short-term thinking.

As Coquitlam continues to welcome new residents and businesses, we must ensure our infrastructure, parks, traffic network, and community amenities keep pace with growth, while protecting the quality of life residents value.

My priorities include:

Planning and Development

• • supporting affordable housing choices that are more attainable for families, seniors, students, essential workers, and residents at every stage of life.
  • implementing practical parking solutions that keep cars off-street to support neighbourhood livability and safer side streets.
  • growing local business areas, with potential micro units, that cater to local residents.

Core Services

• • continuing strategic investments in core services and amenities such as roads, parks and recreation amenities so families, seniors, student athletes and sports user groups can enjoy their activities safely.
  • modernizing our infrastructure and City services so residents receive efficient, reliable, and high-quality services today and for decades to come.
  • investing in transportation infrastructure such as sidewalks and protected active transportation routes where appropriate.
  • enhancing wet and snowy weather clearing services for roads and active transportation lanes.

Because growth should strengthen our community, protect the quality of life residents value while preparing our city for future generations.

2. Grow A Strong Local Economy

Strong local businesses create jobs, attract investment, and help build a vibrant community.

My priorities include:

Economic Development

• • continuing to enhance the City's Economic Development Strategy to encourage entrepreneurship, innovation, investment attraction, and business growth.
  • supporting business improvement areas and economic cultural hubs.
  • building up festivals, cultural events, and neighbourhood initiatives that bring people together while creating opportunities for local businesses.

Streamline City Processes

• • investing in proven technologies and systems that help our City go at the speed of today's business. 
  • reducing unnecessary red tape to make it easier to do business in Coquitlam and enhance our customer service.

Because a strong local economy creates opportunity for everyone.

3. Protect What Makes Coquitlam Special

As our city grows, we must never lose sight of what makes Coquitlam one of Canada's best places to live.

My priorities include:

Community and Public Safety

• • prioritizing safe neighbourhoods with meaningful investment in our RCMP, Fire Fighters and Bylaws.
  • enhancing emergency preparedness initiatives with a focus on extreme weather situations.
  • reviewing micromobility and e-dirtbike safety and enforcement requirements.

City Programs and Services

• • maintaining affordable services for youth, adults and seniors across our City. This includes keeping low cost food options and meal delivery services for seniors.
  • continuing priority access for facilities and program registrations for Coquitlam residents.
  • investing in enhanced streetscapes and public murals.

Environmental Sustainability

• • monitoring the implementation of our environmental sustainability plans as they roll out over the coming years. This includes protecting wildlife areas and adding to our tree canopy.
  • encouraging the renewal, relocation, and reuse of fixable homes when doable, thus reducing unnecessary demolition and construction waste.

Because great cities are measured by the quality of life they create for the people who call them home.

4. Advocate For Coquitlam

Municipal governments focus on local priorities, so we also have a responsibility to advocate for the investments our growing community needs.

My priorities include:

Promoting Partnerships and Meaningful Investment

• • working with provincial and federal partners to secure the investments our growing community needs. This includes expanded schools and hospitals, funding for parks and facilities, and transportation upgrades that make life better for our residents.
  • advocating for safe and appropriate regional housing and wrap-around services for our most vulnerable populations.
  • advocating for a review of provincial standards for micro-mobility and e-devices. This includes working with the RCMP, Bylaws and ICBC to review possible higher age minimums, licensing and insurance requirements.

Fighting for Coquitlam

• • standing up for Coquitlam when senior governments download new responsibilities onto municipalities without the resources needed to deliver them.

Because Coquitlam deserves its fair share of investment and support.

5. Lead Thoughtfully

Good leadership is about making thoughtful decisions that balance today's needs with tomorrow's priorities.

I will continue:

Governance and Fiscal Responsibility

• • managing taxes responsibly and deliver strong value for every tax dollar. This includes maintaining our tax stabilization program.
  • focusing on asset management so our infrastructure is properly maintained and replaced in the future.

Accessible and Approachable

• • being approachable and an active listener to the concerns facing our residents and business owners.

Because residents deserve strong governance, fiscal restraint and accountability.

Looking Ahead

Serving on Coquitlam City Council has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

As I seek your support for another four-year term, I do so with gratitude for the trust you've placed in me over the past eight years and optimism for what we can accomplish together.

By planning responsibly, investing wisely, supporting our local economy, protecting our quality of life, and continuing to work collaboratively with our community and government partners, I believe Coquitlam's best years are still ahead.

Together, let's continue building a stronger Coquitlam for today, for tomorrow, and for generations to come.
